Montreal is a gem that is often overlooked by pleasure travelers. Montreal is a unique blend of European charm and North American setting and is accessible to travelers by either car or plane. The downtown core is centralized with the nightlife, shopping, and hotels located within a few major streets. Montreal has as much to offer as New York City in terms of culture and fine dining as well as all the action of Las Vegas for considerably less. From pubs to after hour clubs, Montreal has it all, which is why we are considered one of the premier places for nightlife in the world.Back to top

While Montreal is known for its nightlife there is equally as much to do during the day! What ever you are in the mood for Montreal offers it, from a relaxing tour of the city to challenging your buddies to a go-kart race at North America's largest indoor track. Shopping in Montreal is world renowned. Our underground mall forms the largest network of shopping malls in the world. From the small boutiques on trendy St-Laurent to the massive underground mall, Montreal is a shopper's paradise, with a unique European flair for all budgets. Summer is also very exciting, because there are free outdoor festivals almost every weekend. The major sections of downtown are closed to cars for some of the more major street festivals, such as: Grand Prix, Jazz festival, Just for Laughs (comedy festival), and Montreal international Film Festival.
For larger groups, popular day time activities include: paintball, jet boating, go-carting, skiing, golf, spa, shopping, and sight seeing, and sleeping (for those that take full advantage of the nightlife.)Back to top
While French is the official language of Quebec, you will not have any problems speaking English. It is the first language for many Montrealers and for the most part everyone in the city speaks English, especially in all downtown bars, clubs, stores, and hotels. You will find almost everything including restaurant menus written in both English and French. Montreal is truly inviting to English tourists and everyone makes their best effort to speak English!Back to top

In terms of physical scenery, Montreal is beautiful. The city is clean and modern with touches of traditional French architecture in Old Montreal. Unlike most cities, Montreal also has natural beauty with a large central mountain park (Mount Royal) and a charming waterfront in the Old Port. People watching, however, is what makes Montreal truly stunning. It is widely known that women in Montreal are some of the most beautiful in the world. Just take one walk down Ste-Catherine on a sunny summer day and you will certainly agree.Back to top
You can use US dollars at most places in Montreal; however, you may not receive the most advantageous exchange rate. US ATM cards work in our bank machines and you typically receive the best exchange rate from your bank. Typical fees do apply, as well check to see if your bank charges "international" banking fees for using your ATM card in Canada.
Many find it advantageous to have some Canadian money for spending. It is not necessary to obtain Canadian dollars at an airport or from your local bank, for there are many small exchange places along main streets, and they charge only a small fee though (usually 2%). Hotels often provide conversion services but at a less advantageous rate. We find the best solution is to use your US ATM card.Back to top
There is excellent public transportation in Montreal. There are buses and the Metro (subway) that reach all corners of the city. Cabs are always circulating and reasonably inexpensive. We are also able to provide limousine and other private transportation. Despite all the options, most find walking around is the best. Most of the action and sights in Montréal are within a few blocks of each other so walking is usually your best option and it allows visitors to experience our city first hand.Back to top
Tipping in Montreal is usually expected with services such as dining, drinking, and cabs. The rate at which people tip is similar to that of most US cities, the usual tip for dinning is 15% and people often tip a minimum $1-2 for a drink. One thing to note is that the $1 and $2 denominations are coins, so be aware of what you are tipping as it might be more than you expected.Back to top
Downtown Montreal has more restaurants per capita than anywhere in the world, making it a true culinary paradise. Reflecting the diverse ethnic and national culture, Montreal has restaurants of every type of cuisine imaginable, usually within any few block radius. Dining reaches all ends of the budgetary spectrum, from VIP fine dinning to 24 hour diners. Montreal is known for its local specialties, such as: smoked meat, pountine, Montreal steak, and crepes, but traditional 'American' restaurants are also plentiful.Back to top

Montreal is quite a fashion conscious city. As a rule you can never be too dressed up to go out. Montrealers always try to look their best. However, guys, this does not mean that you are expected to wear a suit. At many clubs there is a dress code that mostly applies to men.
