This is a question that is asked all the time.
If you travel by land, then no, you don't need a passport.
If you travel by air, then yes, you do need a passport.
If you want to travel to Montreal by air and don't have a passport, consider flying to a neighboring US city and entering Canada by land. It's way cheaper too ![]()

Only as of June 1, 2009, you will need a passport to enter Canada and the US when traveling via a land border.
